By BXTra | 9:43 AM PST, Tue January 08, 2008
CompUSA will live on, thanks to a deal with electronics marketer Systemax. Systemax, which owns popular computer parts reseller (and CompUSA competitor) TigerDirect, announced yesterday that it has entered into an agreement to purchase the CompUSA brand, trademarks, and e-commerce business. It also plans to acquire select assets and retail stores from the company, and says that it expects to close various parts of the deal throughout the first quarter of the year.

iPhone users can now remove data plan if they don't need it.

By BXTra | 10:03 PM PST, Fri November 16, 2007
AT&T silently offers an option allowing iPhone users to remove EDGE data plan option that would save them $20/month. Just go to your AT&T myAccount page and click "Add/Manage Features". This will additionally remove text messaging, you should add a text messaging plan if you don't want to pay by the message. You will no longer have access to Visual Voicemail if data is removed. You'll have to call for voicemail just like any other phone. talkiphone.com

Disappearing Gmail messages baffle users

By BXTra | 10:42 PM PST, Wed November 14, 2007

When Jeneane Sessum logged into her Gmail account on the afternoon of Oct. 27, she was greeted with a horrifying sight: an empty inbox.

A Gmail user since 2004, Sessum, a social media consultant and writer in Atlanta, had thousands of messages there, enough to use up almost 30 percent of her allotted storage space.

Because Gmail is her primary work and personal e-mail service, Sessum lost many important messages, including some she needed at that moment for a project.

By BXTra | 10:36 PM PST, Wed November 14, 2007

ReadyBoost is a feature available under Windows Vista. With eBoostr software, Windows XP can also get ReadyBoost feature too. eboostr allows you to use an additional drive (flash memory or hard disk) as another layer of performance-boosting cache for your Windows XP. There is no need to purchase a Vista upgrade to get the benefits of the Vista's ReadyBoost technology. With the newly developed eBoostr, the booting of your OS and applications startup get much faster thanks to the smart caching mechanism.

Google at Gas Station

By BXTra | 7:47 PM PST, Wed November 07, 2007

Lost drivers in U.S. soon will be able to find Google Map in Gas station across the country beginning early next month.

The pumps, made by Gilbarco Veeder-Root, include an Internet connection and will display Google's mapping service in color on a small screen.

Motorists will be able to scroll through several categories to find local landmarks, hotels, restaurants and hospitals selected by the gas station's owner. After the driver selects a destination, the pump will print out directions.
